I see I can defer updates for up to 35 days. At which point, presumably, they will be forced upon me.

Of course in the bad old days people were laggards about running updates and left themselves vulnerable to security problems. That's a bad thing.

A month seems to me a fair compromise. Find a day you can afford to be without your machine for a bit, if needed, and run the damn update.
